Youngblood’s Secret Weapon…

Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Hi Def PowderHi-Def Hydrating Mineral Perfecting Powder is Youngblood Cosmetic’s secret weapon. It’s the talk of the industry.

I absolutely love it! I’ve been using it on photo shoots, catwalks and on every make-up I have done since it was released by Youngblood.

The sheer powder expertly conceals imperfection, refines pores and naturally absorbs excess oil. It’s like magic the way it controls shine on the skin. It contains extracts of licorice to help calm any redness. This powder will make your skin smooth and look air-brushed.

Apply to your skin after your foundation but before bronzer or blusher. Go on…. Try it!

10 Steps to prepare for your valentine.

10 Steps to prepare for your Valentine.

1.       Defuzz yourself. Make sure you have any unwanted hair removed. Even if nobody will see your hairy legs you will feel more confidant knowing it is done.

2.       Have a nice relaxing soak in the bath. Use an exfoliater (Try St.Tropez Body Polisher) to smooth and soften your skin.

3.       Moisturise: Why not build up a little colour at the same time as moisturising? St Tropez Everyday range is fantastic, not only does it moisturise AND help firm the skin, but also gradually builds up a natural tan!

4.       Nails: Make sure all your nails are the same lengths. Even if your nails are short they will look neat and tidy all the same length.  Give your hands a quick and easy treat with Proto-col Instant Manicure. When you are painting your nails make sure you use a base coat before applying colour varnish.  Without a base coat your nails are more likely to stain from the coloured varnish. Also applying a topcoat over the varnish will give your nails with a nice glossy look and help the varnish last longer.

5.       Eyebrows: Your eyebrows can change the way you look. If you are not confident with shaping your eyebrows then why not let a professional shape them for you. There are a variety of ways to shape eyebrows from tweezing, waxing or threading.

6.       Make sure you apply your make-up after drying and styling your hair, otherwise you may find you get a little hot and flushed under that drier. Try using a finishing product to give your hair a healthy shine. TIGI Bed Head Superficial Smoothing Liquid 100ml or  TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Weightless Shine Spray 200ml

7.       Applying your make-up: Depending on what kind of look you would like to create, I usually apply eye make-up first before applying the foundation. This is so once I have applied the eye shadow I can wipe away any excess shadow that may have fallen onto the face. For an evening make-up try using a light coloured eye shadow with shimmer to it and apply it all over the eyelid up to the brow bone. This will then accentuate your nicely shaped brows. Then add a stronger coloured shadow to your eyelid blending a darker shadow on the outer corner of your eyelid and onto the socket line.

8.       Your Lashes: Hopefully your date will be gazing into your eyes during the night so make you’re your eyelashes look their best. Try using our heated eyelash curlers to gently curl your lashes. They give amazing results. For best results apply your mascara first and let it start to dry then use the eyecurl.

9.       Your Lips: More colour on your lips are in this season although you do need your lipstick to compliment your outfit. Try one of the Youngbloods Lip Glosses to get that extra glossy look!

10.   Put on your perfume, jewellery and glad rags! I would advise getting dressed after you have finished your hair and make-up otherwise you might be going out with stray hairs on your back and a top speckled with make-up!

Enjoy your Valentines Day!

Dry & dehydrated skin.

Has your skin started to feel dry and dehydrated this winter?

I have noticed a lot of my client’s skin has started to feel the strain of winter. The freezing weather outside then inside, the dry hot air from the heating being on constantly. This can really dry and dehydrate your skin.

I think most people know you should try and drink plenty of water to help hydrate yourself but have you ever thought of keeping a bowl of water in your lounge or bedroom? This will help put moisture back into the air, therefore helping to prevent moisture being drawn from you skin. If you don’t want to have a random bowl of water in your room, why not make a feature from it by adding some floating candles?

Youngblood have a fantastic product to boost your skin, ‘Minerals in the Mist’. It contains three unique blends of pure essential oils, minerals, and vitamins for long-lasting hydration and protection. Apply after cleaning your skin but, also apply a fine mist after you have applied your make-up to boost your skin.

Make Up Tips for Ladies that Wear Glasses

Filed under: Ask Claire Questions & Answers — Tags: , — admin @ 9:18 am

Hi,
Do you have any make-up tips for ladies who wear glasses?
Thanks,
Paula, Worcester

Hi Paula,
Some ladies get put off wearing eye make-up when they wear glasses, but usually it looks better if eye make-up is worn.

First of all, are you long or short sighted? If you are long sighted then your eye will appear larger, so keep the shadow colours soft and matte. Try to use taupe, soft pale shell pinks, brown, and deep plums.

If you are short sighted your eyes will appear smaller. You will need to wear light, slightly more shimmery shadows, plus eyeliners will really help define the shape of your eyes. Line only half way along the top lashes and 1/4 of the way along the base of the lower lashes. Try curling your eyelashes after applying mascara. This works wonders for opening up your eyes and making your eyelashes look fabulous!

Try revamping your clear lip glosses by mixing in the Youngblood Lunar Dusts or Crushed Mineral Blushes.

It’s a great way of adapting your lip glosses to suit your make-up without buying lots of different colours!

I have recently become more aware of the hairs on my upper lip and I am unsure on what I should do about them

Filed under: Ask Claire Questions & Answers — admin @ 9:00 am

Hi Claire,
I have recently become more aware of the hairs on my upper lip and I am unsure on what I should do about them. Is it best to bleach them or cut them? What would you recommend?
Jan, Midlands

Hi Jan,
To start with don’t worry. You are not the only woman who has to think about these things. I wouldn’t go cutting the hairs as this will have the same effect as shaving. If you cut the hairs then the root of the hair is still there and still growing, which in time may make the hairs appear stronger and they will be more stubbly.

You have a few methods to choose from. You could try bleaching the area. Always use a specialised kit for treating these areas. And you must do a patch test first. The other alternative is to have the area waxed or threaded. Both methods aren’t the most pleasant but it is done quickly. The hair will be removed from the root so you will have a few weeks with no hair there. This is the kind of treatment you would need to have every month or so to keep on top of it.

If there is a few stronger hairs that you are aware of you could try electrolysis. This would need to be done by a qualified therapist. A very fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle and a low electrical current is passed through to cauterize the blood supply to the hair. If you choose this option you should book a consultation with a Therapist first to discuss what you would like to achieve from the treatment. The same with any laser treatment. Sometimes hair growth can be caused by hormones or medication, in which case certain treatments may not be successful.

I’m going on holiday and don’t want to look white – should I have a spray tan?

Filed under: Ask Claire Questions & Answers — Tags: , — admin @ 8:37 am

Hi Claire,
I am going on holiday in a few weeks and I don’t want to look like a ghost when I get to the beach. What would be the best thing to do? Should I have a spray tan?
Thanks,
Anna

Hi Anna,
I know what you mean. There is nothing worse than feeling like you stand out because you look so pale against others on holiday. You have a few different options.

Firstly I would suggest using the St. Tropez Step 2 Moisturising Lotion. This product helps prepare your skin for being in the Sun. It helps plump up the melanin in your skin, which is what makes you tan. (There is no SPF in this product though).

To give your self a tan, you could use the St.Tropez Everyday tanning lotion that builds up gradually. Apply this everyday unless you want a lighter tan, in which case, apply every other day or as needed. Alternatively you could apply a fake tan using the Auto Bronzant Lotion, Mousse or Aero Bronze. Make sure you don’t apply this to the palms of your hands…we don’t tan there! If you are not confident to apply your own tan then I would go to a beauty salon and have a tanning treatment or a spray tan.

Have a great holiday,

Claire

Dry skin in the cold weather makes foundation look flaky

Filed under: Ask Claire Questions & Answers — Tags: , — admin @ 1:01 pm

My skin has started to dry in areas since all the cold weather so when I put my foundation on it looks flaky in areas. What can I do to stop this? – Anon

Do you use a make-up primer before applying your make-up? It makes such a difference. Not only does it prepare your skin for the foundation it also stimulates collagen growth. It contains vitamins and minerals which will help protect your skin, which you need in this weather! It will leave your skin luminous and youthful looking.

Make sure you have a good skin care routine. You may find you need to use a richer cream on the areas you have dryness. Try gently exfoliating once a week and use a rich night cream at night time and see if this makes any difference.

Thanks,

Claire

Getting lots of spots appearing on my back

Filed under: Ask Claire Questions & Answers — admin @ 3:39 pm

‘I’ve recently started going to the gym and I am finding that I am suddenly getting lots of spots appear on my back. I’m sure it is from going to the gym. How can I stop this happening?’
Anon

“That is great that you are getting into a good fitness regime. The spots will be caused by a build up of sweat on the skin. After your workout the skins pores will be open from the heat your body has generated. If there is dirt on your skin it can sit in your pores and block them.

The best thing to help prevent this would be…

  • Take a towel into the gym with you so you can wipe away the sweat during your work out.
  • Make sure you shower after your workout. Avoid strong fragranced soaps or body washes.
  • Don’t apply any product to the area after your shower. Including body sprays.
  • Wear loose clothing rather than anything too tight, which will aggravate the area more.”
